Choosing a custom thumbnail

Thumbnails matter. They're the first thing people see in your library, in social previews, and in embeds before the video plays. Vidreno picks one for you automatically, but you can choose any frame you like.

Where to find the thumbnail picker

  1. Open the video page.
  2. Scroll down to the Thumbnail section, just under the technical details.
  3. You'll see two boxes side by side: Current thumbnail on the left, and a scrubber on the right.

How to pick a frame

  1. Drag the slider underneath the right hand video to seek to the frame you want.
  2. The right hand box updates as you scrub, so you can see exactly what you're picking.
  3. When you're happy, click Set as Thumbnail.

The new thumbnail replaces the old one across your dashboard, the video page, embeds and social previews. It might take a few seconds to refresh in places that have cached the old image.

The chosen frame is captured at the same resolution as your video. So if your video is 1080p, your thumbnail will be a sharp 1080p image.

Tips for a good thumbnail

  • Pick a frame with a clear subject, not a transition or motion blur.
  • Bright, high contrast frames stand out better in a list of videos.
  • Faces (looking at the camera) catch attention well for tutorials and talks.
